Army Simulation & Training: The new cash cow

peo-striIn one fell swoop, the United States Army Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training and Instrumentation (PEO STRI) awarded over 140 contracts valued at $17.5 billion late last month.

The Simulation and Training Omnibus Contract (STOC II) is meant to serve as contracting vehicle with a life of ten years to quickly procure S&T technology for U.S. and coalition service members. “The overall purpose of STOC II is to have highly-qualified contractors on-hand to rapidly satisfy the needs of our nation’s Warfighters,” explained Brian Murphy, the PEO STRI contracting officer responsible for STOC II in a statement.

Data link, jamming power added to Air Force mini decoy

raytheonRaytheon Co. announced today a contract to increase the jamming capabilities and add a radio frequency data link to the Air Force’s Miniature Air Launched Decoy-Jammer (MALD-J). The MALD-J comes from an original project developed by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency in 1996, under the same acronym, minus the jamming capabilities (MALD).

Coasting Guards

The US Coast Guard has been the focal point of many scrutinous eyes as of late. The highly anticipated and highly funded program, Integrated Deepwater System Program (Deepwater) is a 25-year, $24 billion program to integrate and modernize the fleet of aircraft, ships, logistics and command systems of the US Coast Guard. This program was started in 2002 and it has been a contentious program since the beginning.
